Raise your hand if you’re reading this story from bed, propped up on a random assortment of pillows that range from decorative and lumpy to supportive and old. Raise your other hand if you’re working from the same bed.
It turns out that you’re not alone in this behavior. We’ve all been staying home and staying safe for the last 11-plus months, and many of us have just kind of given up and started working from our beds — typically the most comfortable place in the house.
Even before the pandemic, estimates of just how much time we all spend in bed ranged anywhere from 33 years to 36 years, depending on which poll you read. It’s hard to imagine what those numbers look like now after more than a year of staying and working from home.
Though we all put quite a bit of time, money, and effort into choosing the right mattress for our homes, we may ignore a critical part of the equation to find comfort and rest when we sleep: Our pillows.
